Thanks

Thanks to everyone who posted comments welcoming me to Stash Quilts. I'm glad to have the encouragement of this group as I try to accomplish my goals for 2006.

My Stash

I’m back home now. I didn’t get any quilting done today – went to a movie and dinner instead and we have a New Year’s Eve party to go to in a couple hours.

I decided to take and post a picture of my stash, or at least part of it. There are a couple medium sized bins filled with strips and strings that aren’t in this picture.

I’d like to say that this is messier than usual but messy has become the usual these days. I need to straighten it all up again.

It's probably just as well that I didn't get any work done today since I'm thinking about joining the 100 yard dash on the Stashbusters List. I should use up quite a few yards with the borders, binding, and backing of the two twin sized quilts I'm going to work on first.

Plumbing

Yeah, finally got the plumbing issues fixed at the Condo which means I can go home tomorrow and get back to work on my quilting. The water heater still needs fixing but they are going to come back on Friday next week to finish up.

Can anyone tell me why one project always leads to another? We put in three new toilets in the Condo and now there’s a gap between the carpet and the toilet in all three bathrooms. Luckily I don’t like carpet in the bathroom and had already planned on replacing the flooring but as a temporary measure I’ll be buying those shaped bathroom rugs that fit around the toilets.

What I'm reading

Those who save us by Jenna Blum

I just finished this book and loved it. About a mother and daughter and their relationship, the story flashes back and forth from Germany during WW2 and the present.

Eager to get started

I'm eager to start working on my first two UFO's but I'm away from home at the Condo we just purchased in the North Georgia Mountains at Big Canoe.

Keith and I had a very quiet Christmas here and I stayed on so we could have some insulation work done on the Condo. That led to needing to get a plumber in to look at the hot water heater and several other plumbing related issues. I expected the plumber to work today and had planned to return home in the morning but unfortunately the plumber canceled due to his assistant being ill and he hopes to come tomorrow.

I finished the book I was reading and I finished up the crochet afghan I was working on this weekend so I'll guess I'll go back to working on Warm up America squares for now.

I wanted to post a picture of Big Canoe here but they're all at home so I'll post one of Keith and me on a hiking trip to nearby Amicolala Falls.

2006 Quilt Goals

As I enter my 6th year as a quilter, my goals are to use up my stash and complete a number of UFO's that have accumulated over the last few years. In my first year or two as a quilter I started and finished all my projects. I bought a longarm 3 and 1/2 years ago and now I have unfinished tops and various quilts in progress and they seem to keep piling up.

I quilt only for myself and family members with an occasional quilt made for a friend. 75% of the quilts I make are donated to charititable organizations.

To introduce myself, my name is Mary and I'm married with 2 grown sons. My youngest, Adam just finished a culinary program and is now working for the Ritz Carlton. He moved out of the house in November and I am still getting used to him being gone. Chris, my oldest son, graduated from college last May and is living in Savannah. He just announced his engagement and is getting married in October 2006.

My husband is a Sales Director for a medical company and travels frequently for work. I'm an RN but haven't worked for the last few years. My charity quilting along with traveling with my husband, and a 4 and 1/2 year old Bichon Frise named Chesty keep me busy.
