String Quilts

While I was in Florida there was more discussion on the stashbuster list about string quilts so I thought I'd post 2 more string quilts that I'd made.

The lap quilt was the first one I did and after the blocks were made I sashed them with a blue fabric. The second one on the bed is a what I call self sashing. The first string placed on each block is the same blue fabric so when the blocks are sewn together it appears sashed.

I have 2 more string quilts on my UFO list that I'm anxious to work on but there are a few other projects ahead of them.

Beautiful colorful quilts Mary - what a great use of your stash of strings!

These are lovely.... I'm tempted to try a string quilt when I see how they look, but the amount of thread and hours of sewing such narrow pieces to have almost as much in the seams on the back is not so tempting.... :-)

This pattern goes pretty quickly because half the block is a single fabric.

I cut a bunch of squares in half and then added the strings on the other half of the block.

I do piece my string quilts on a muslin base.

I love the bright colours in these string quilts, Mary. They just vibrate with colour. Also love your afghans. You ahve been busy and it's good to have you back from your trip.

I really like how the blue fabric ties it all together. Looks like these quilts busted lots of stash!

Cheers!
