Another border?

Almost done - I think it could use another border of the dark blue to reframe the quilt. Yes? No? If yes, what size? The braids and pieced border finish at 4 inches and the dark blue border is 3 inches.

Chesty's up on the chair studying the quilt but didn't express his opinion one way or the other.

See all the blue strips still on the floor? A blue string quilt?

Lovely colours! I just wonder, how wide are the strips in the braids?

I like the braids! And would maybe just put a thin soild around the quilt to finish it, due to it being busy, I think anymore would take away from the rest of the pattern. Maybe a lighter blue to also make the inner dark stand out. But I like it.

The braid strips are 1 and 1/2 inches finished. My strips were cut oversized since I was planning to foundation piece them so the piano keys are about 2 inches.

Chesty, help mama out, will you? LOL. It looks fine to me the way it us but its destination may determine how big it needs to get. Very masculine looking with all the blues.

I get so used to the 40 x 60, 50 x 70 for the donation quilts, so what do I know?

I wish I could train my Siamese to sit quietly in a chair when I try to lay out a quilt on the floor, but NOOoooo, they're tunneling under it, playing hide and seek games.

It's a lovely quilt. I'd be tempted to simply mirror that inner border there for the outside, then bind it in something dark.

It has a wonderful sense of movement and vitality just the way it is. Very fun to look at. LOVE the border! I would definitely stop there with just a narrow dark blue binding, although it is really so stunning, I'm sure it will be fantastic whatever you choose.

Love the quilt. I wouldn't add another border, just a dark blue for the binding :)

I love it just like it is. I'd only add another border if you need it larger. Great quilts!

Is it "big enough?" If it is it looks "done." If not, you could easily add another border - probably the width of the inner border...

I'd just bind it with the dark blue and let that finish it.

You are making me want to pull strips for a braid of my own. Like I NEED another project!

Yes, I agree, just bind it with a dark blue and it'll be just perfect! Chesty's such a cutie. My dogs usually don't like to jump on chairs with wheels. Too wiggly!

Frame it up with dark blue binding...call it fun and done! Looks good as it is as long as it is the size you were hopeing for.

Opinion seems to be heavily towards "just bind it", so I'll go with the majority..if it's big enough for what you want..bind it and call it done!

And yes, definitely a string quilt from the blue left overs...*VBS*

Mary,
I haven't read the above, but I would just bind it in a dark blue. That will be enough to frame it! LOVE it!

You know - I have a friend who would just love a blue quilt and for the life of me - I just can't settle down and make something ALL blue. Those are 2 very blue, blue quilts - they are pretty, but I am not sure I would have the patience to look at that much blue! I think I would bind it in bright green or red just to rebel against it a bit (grin!). I especially like the piano key border.

Cheers!
