Backing scraps

Am I the only one who can't throw away the leftover bits of quilt backings? I piece together leftover strips of batting but these backing pieces have been sitting in a bin waiting for me to find a use for them.

Since this String quilt uses all my scrap bits and pieces I decided I'd see if I could piece a usable back out of this pile. So far I have about 3/4 of the size I need sewn together but the question is will this backing be too ugly to use?

I'm with you Mary, I save all my fabric pieces if it's larger than 1.5" square. They get fed into my scrap bins.
Even batt, I save all that too, and I do use even the smallest pieces. Because of placemats and mug mats, I'm able to use it ALL. Some of my friends think I'm nuts to save that stuff, but if I save on batt, I can spend up on other stuff.

I think if the top is super scrappy then the back can be as scrappy! (so can the binding!)

Scrappy front, scrappy back! Go for it. If it's ugly just don'tlook at the back. I also save everything but I hate piecing batting so I have huge bags of pieces. My granddaughters make pillows from it whenever they are here.

I love scrappy backs! How about a Lasagna style? My friend just did one in greys and blacks from the charity bin at the quilt shop. People donate whatever they don't want and someone else pieces, quilts and binds it. Then the shop donates. No choice in fabrics makes the mind more creative!

Scrappy backs are the best, Mary...I do it all the time, too. And you feel so virtuous, using up all those scraps.

If Beth shares with you what she means by Lasagne style backing, will you share the info with us? I'm dying of curiosity!

Mary, it might be a little more work than you are looking for, but how about putting a few of those together and then do a Ricky Timms Convergence Quilt type thing with them? Might make it work!

Absolutely not! After all, it is the back, and this is a scrappy quilt! I think it's a perfect use for those pieces.

I've been concentrating on cutting all my back trimmings into strips, or squares if the back is pieced from large squares. I refuse to add anything else to my overflowing scrap tubs!

I think this will be the perfect backing for a string quilt. I love to save and use all the scraps I can. Be sure to share a piccie when you're done :)

I love your strings quilts and the lastest oak leaf quilt, too. I'm a fan of pieced backs, especially with scrappy quilts.

I love scrappy quilts and using up the extra fabric for the back.
Congrats on the stash reduction total. I'm also working on reducing my stash.

I quite often piece the backs of my quilts too. Makes them double sided sometimes.
