Chesty injured his knee last night and I was panicking because he was supposed to go to the kennel today and they don't take sick or injured dogs (and I wouldn't want him there injured anyway!)
I was also concerned because he'd injured his other knee a couple years ago and had surgery on it. So first thing this morning we took him to the University of MN Vet ER and had him seen. Yes, he'd injured his knee but the ligament wasn't torn completely and the vet recommended trying medical treatment first - crate rest for 2 weeks and anti-inflammatory medications.
I thought I was going to have to find an animal hospital that would board him or let Keith go on the cruise without me (have I mentioned we're taking my sons and DIL and meeting his brother & family too so it's not just US to consider)
Luckily, we're going to be able to medically board Chesty this one time at the University and the ER Vet will manage his care while we're gone. Of course, it's going to cost us $800 and that's if he doesn't require any additional treatment or surgery but it's worth it for my peace of mind.
On a side note, I did see the Cardiologist on Monday and they're going to do further testing the Monday I get back from vacation. I'm beginning to wonder if this vacation is jinxed!
