#5 is done

This is a HeartStrings top pieced by the St. Mary's quilters in CT and it will go back to them for binding. I'm not completely happy with my decision to freehand quilt leaves over this quilt - it was very difficult to see my quilting and therefore I fretted the entire time over my spacing. Also, it would have been better if I'd stitched the border separately but it's done and it's not too bad.

Of course, the backing would show every little detail of the quilting but luckily my spacing wasn't as bad as I feared.

I'm halfway to my goal of 10 quilts by the end of August but don't be too impressed - most of them aren't that large and they're getting either freehand overalls or pantographs but it sure feels good to be getting these done.

Don't worry Be Happy :-)

Your work looks great to me, I wish I had 1 tenth of your talent. I'm so in the 8 size crayon box.
I love your work.

Wow! Halfway to your goal and it's only the first week. When the top is very busy like the this one, could you quilt it upside down. That way you'd be seeing the back as your work. I think it turned out great, as always. Great work, Mary!

The quilt, and the quilting look wonderful! Congrats on reaching the halfway point of your goal, too.

LOVE the leaves! You quilt better not being able to see than I will ever quilt with a full view of the stitching! lol! Great job!

Love your quilt! And your quilting is gorgeous! Someday I will make a string pieced quilt. After I discovered your wonderful blog I went through my stash and organized my fabric strips by color. The first step in preparing for a string pieced quilt. You inspired me!

You are doing great! Those leaves look wonderful to me. You are so inspiring to me...your quilting progress is amazing. Seeing what you quilt encourages me to work on my quilting...wish I had more time, but at least my fear is diminishing.

I think your leaves look fantastic. What better way to practice your frehanding, on a string quilt. I don't htink anyone who receives this quilt would ever guess that you were new at freehanding leaves. If you ask me, I think you have pretty much mastered them.

Love from Texas! ~bonnie
